Weed Control – Understanding the Basics

Nearly everyone who has a lawn has the problem of weeds interfering with their vision of a lush green lawn. Weeds are unsightly, and they are hard to control once they have taken root. They choke out the grass with shallow roots, and they rob the soil of nutrients and water.

The best way to eliminate weeds is to spend some time understanding how they work, and how you can control them.

The success or failure of your control program depends on two things: Learning how to control weeds using physical methods like hand weeding and raking, and understanding the basics of chemical control like fungicides and pesticides.

ively clean your lawn

Most people want their lawns to be as weed free as possible. Indeed, most people would not want a backyard to be as weed free as possible. But to achieve perfection on weed control you must be willing to do what is right and not do what is wrong.

If you have the right lawn conditions, there is no need to spend any money on weeds. However, if your lawn is bad, you will still want to understand how to control weeds.

Every lawn has organisms in it that help to keep the lawn healthy. These organisms are what control weeds. They consist of two parts: a large percentage of spore, and a certain bacteria.

TheSpore organismis the one that kills weeds by filling up spaces in the cells of the plant and plant tissue. They need a lot of nutrition to continue living. This is why they are often seen in lawns with healthy, growing grass. Without this life, the lawn will be weakened and more prone to weeds.

The bacteriaAeris bacteria are important in the life of all lawns and turn the grass into a soft, water absorbing substance. In the case of Kikuyu, they breaking down the soil and enriching it.

These organisms are usually brought to the lawn by the running of water, which makes the lawn mower’s blades shiver. However, they can be killed by over watering using a regular lawn sprinkler system.

Chemical control of weeds

There are weed killer chemicals available on the market. These are very dangerous if used improperly. In general, broadleaf weeds like dandelions and buttercups should be destroyed with these chemicals. Sod grown in a lawn is not affected by the weed killer chemicals and can be pulled out completely.

The proper way of killing weeds using these chemicals is to use them at the correct time of the year. This is when the plant is actively growing and has the highest concentration of oils that will kill it. The weeds will decompose within a couple of days. If you have a poorly growing lawn then it would be best to use the chemicals in the springtime.

There are three main categories of weed killer chemicals – selective, non-selective, andicidal. These are pretty self-explanatory, but I’ll explain them a little further.

The selective type of weed killer will kill weeds only certain types of them. The selective can be used in lawns with a lot of twigs and stems, such as dandelions and long grass. This type can be used in lawns without these stems, such as bare patches and ruts. The non-selective type of weed killer cannot be used in lawns with some bright flowers, just bare patches of soil. Theicidal type can be used in lawns like this.

The selective type of weed killer will kill weeds in these exact same circumstances. The selective type of weed killer will prevent seeds germinating if planted in lawns. This type of weed killer is great for use with bedding and other solid surfaces to get rid of tough grasping weeds that try to stick their ugly heads up!

The non-selective weed killer is the cheapest and the most effective. This type of weed killer will kill even the most difficult weeds. This type of weed killer is normally used by homeowners and contractors. The best way to get this type of weed killer is if you or your company is buying them every year. Otherwise, you will need to pour more than you would probably have to to get a good quality product. This type of weed killer does not work on vegetative weeds and only some weeds with perennial life.

By knowing the right type of weed killer and enough research on its use you will be able to determine the correct product for your lawn or garden.
